After 40 years, Miep finds her cousin back in South-AfricaFor years and years, Miep has been wondering what has become of her cousin Geert Greeven. THE STORYOn January 12th 1963, Geert Greeven and his brother Dirk are taking off on the ship called the ’SS Waterman’ from the Netherlands to Auckland- New-Zealand. The two brothers do not mind the long and difficult journey on the ship, as they are very excited and full of their future plans. Geert and Dirk are quite skilful and they would like to start a business in canopies. Their parents and sister (Ria) remain in the Netherlands. Cousin Miep moves and during the years, contacts fade with the family Greeven. After a couple of years though, Miep learns that Geert married in Auckland and that he probably moved to South-Africa. This should have been around 1972. But she is not able to find out whether Dirk emigrated for the second time as well. Since a couple of years, Miep has been trying to locate her cousin Geert with whom she always got along very well. She puts several adds on specialised websites, but they remain unanswered. She also tries to retrieve some information from various search engines, but unfortunately without any positive outcome…
People Finder Worldwide found back ...
Geert Greeven is found back in East-London, South-Africa. When he is contacted by our researcher, he confirms right away that he is indeed the person Miep has been looking for. Geert is very surprised and happy to hear that Miep decided to find him back, even after al those years.
Geert is very happy in South-Africa where he raised his daughter Jo Anne who is a grown woman by now. Miep and Geert started to write each other again. After his New-Zealand adventure, Geert started working in Kruger National Park and has continued to do so until his retirement a couple of years ago. Unfortunately, his brother Dirk died of a heart attack fifteen years ago. His sister Ria now lives in Germany and so the entire family has spread worldwide.
Miep: “ I do not remember whether I thanked you right away, because I was that much shaken up when you told me the good news. So, I would like to thank you again and in a proper way!! Thank you very very much! Perhaps my story can convince other people to leave their doubts behind and to contact you. Because you definitely need courage to take that step.
